Summer Camp: A Brief Description

Summer time means a lot of different things to a variety of different people all over the country. When you are a student summer is something special for a number of reasons. When summer time rolls around it brings a vacation with it. Students deal with their summer vacations differently. Most students choose to relax by traveling or just hanging around their neighborhoods. Yet there are those students who choose to spend their summers making new friends and participating in fun activities at a summer camp. Within this article we will look at a brief description of some things that you might find at a summer camp.

 

For children and teenagers alike summer camps are special places where they can make new friends or spend times with old ones. Through out the summer there youth development programs that are conducted and supervised. In a safe and inviting environment, the youth are provided with a chance to develop in such matters as sports, social interaction and other such matters.

The effect of a youth’s life can be favorable through the participation of summer camps. Attributes such as leadership, social comfort, self esteem, sense of adventure, values, independence, friendship skills, decisions and their own spirituality as well as peer relations have all been proven by the American Camp Association to be improved by students that enroll into summer camps.

Far beyond the noise and business of the city, summer camps are located in areas that are quiet and full of nature and tranquility. Filled with hiking trails and fun and educational areas to explore and learn, summer camps are usually built in wooded areas. Some camps may even be located near a lake or river which will include activities for water lover as well. These may include canoeing, swimming, or other water activities.

Specialized activities may be provided by certain summer camps. Such camps may have activities that specialized for computers, performing arts, or even magic. There are other summer camps that focus on a more personal level of a student such as weight loss or self esteem or even for mentally challenged students. Operated by Christian organizations, spiritual enlightenment is the focus for religion based summer camps.

Even though most summer camps look to be primitive, having huts or log cabins for the students living quarters and staff buildings, these camps are very much capable of handling any type of situation that may arise. Each one has a very good communication system and monitoring system to check up on all students which are enrolled. In the case of a major emergency, helicopters pads are accommodated at most camps.

The care and attention provided to the campers are over seen by adult councilors and supervisors. Their main goal is to safe and sound conditions within their camps. A counselor is assigned a group of students to look after. The age range for a camp counselor is between late teen and early twenties, which high school and college students perfect for the task of counseling a group of campers during the summer months.

With each different summer camp, the amount of time that they are open is also different. There are camps that stay overnight, while others allow campers to go home at the end of their day. 1-2 weeks is the general period of time that campers spend participating and having fun with friends old and new a like at these summer camps.
